Speakers

William C. "Bubba" Head - "50 Defense Challenges to the Intoxilyzer 5000" - BOARD CERTIFIED BY THE NATIONAL COLLEGE FOR DUI DEFENSE, Mr. Head is a frequent seminar lecturer on DUI law. He and his firm [Head, Thomas, Webb & Willis, LLC] are "av" rated with and named to "The Bar Registry of Pre-Eminent Attorneys" by Martindale-Hubbell.  His firm is Georgia`s largest DUI defense group. He is the author of three books on DUI-related issues including 101 Ways to Avoid a Drunk Driving Conviction, which he co-authored with Reese I. Joye, The Georgia DUI Trial Practice Manual .  

Mr. Head`s practice is limited to the defense of contested DUI and vehicular homicide cases. He serves on the editorial board of the DWI Journal, coordinates a statewide network of more than 60 Georgia DUI attorneys who share cutting-edge information, and is one of the original twelve Regents who started the National College for DUI Defense, Inc. in 1995. He also holds "Life Member" status in the NACDL, GACDL, and SCACDL. He is founder of www.DrunkDrivingDefense.com.

He is certified to operate an Intoxilyzer 5000 and owns an Intoxilyzer 5000 model 768. In 1994, he sponsored the first training program for defense attorneys to be certified in the NHTSA standardized field sobriety tests. In 1996, he sponsored the first certification course for the Intoxilyzer 5000 breath machine. He is certified to administer breath tests, and is certified as an SFST “field sobriety” instructor. He holds a certificate of completion for the Robert F. Borkenstein Course on Alcohol, Drugs, and Highway Safety: Testing, Research, and Litigation based out of Indiana University at Bloomington and is a member of the International Association for Chemical Testing (IACT) as well as member of the jurisprudence section of the American Academy of Forensic Scientists (AAFS). In the cover story for Atlanta Magazine (March, 2000), he was recognized by his Atlanta peers as the "best DUI lawyer."

John Henry Hingson III - "Closing Argument - An Interactive Approach" - Mr. Hingson is listed in The Best Lawyers in America (Criminal Law), Past President of National Association of Criminal Defense, and Author of "How to Defend a Drunk Driving Case."

W. Troy McKinney - "ALR - How to Win and How To Win When You Lose" and "Ethics Jeopardy -- Play to Win" - Best known for representing the "Cheerleader Mom", Wanda Holloway, Mr. McKinney is co-author of Texas Drunk Driving Law. He received a B.S. from Houston Baptist Univ. in 1981 with a double major in Political Science and Speech. He graduated first in his class at South Texas College of Law in 1986. Following law school, McKinney was a briefing attorney to the Honorable Murry Cohen, Justice, First Court of Appeals. He is a partner in the law firm of Schneider & McKinney, P.C., in Houston, Texas.

He is a member of the NACDL, TCDLA, Harris County Criminal Lawyers Association (Vice President 2000-01, President-Elect 2001-02), Fort Bend County Criminal Defense Lawyer's Association, American Bar Association, Houston Bar Association, and the Association of Trial Lawyer's of America.

He is a member of the National College for DUI Defense and is NHTSA-certified to administer Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. He frequently lectures at criminal law seminars throughout the country on topics concerning DWI, asset forfeitures, and appellate practice and procedure.

Mary Catherine McMurray, B.S. - "Breath Alcohol Testing: Science vs. Science Fiction" - Ms. McMurray provides services in areas of chemical testing, the analysis of breath, blood and urine for ethyl alcohol, and the interpretation of the analytical results. She is a consultant with FORENSIC ASSOCIATES, INC.. She has extensive forensic experience with the Intoxilyzer 5000 and numerous other breath alcohol testing devices.

She has been involved with in-vivo and in-vitro research studies concerning the physiological effects of ethyl alcohol and issues related to testing for alcohol. She has also taught and given presentations at numerous professional training classes, seminars and meetings. Ms. McMurray has qualified and testified as an expert witness in her specialty areas in Federal, State and Municipal courts in civil and criminal cases.

Chris Samuelson - "Defense Witness Preparation & Ten Common Mistakes Made by Defense Attorneys" - Chris Samuelson is a trial attorney with Trichter & Samuelson, P.C. in Houston, Texas. Chris has published numerous articles in both state and national publications and is a frequent speaker on ALR and DWI trial strategies. He presently serves as a Trustee to the Houston Young Lawyers Foundation and is a Director of the Houston Young Lawyers Association. Chris is an active member of both the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Lawrence Taylor - "How to destroy field sobriety tests....in 10 easy lessons" - Mr. Taylor is nationally recognized as one of the foremost authorities on DWI/DUI litigation in the United States. A University of California (Berkeley) and UCLA Law School graduate, former prosecutor and Fulbright Professor of Law, he is the author of the standard textbooks in the field, Drunk Driving Defense, 5th ed. and California Drunk Driving Defense, 2nd ed.. He has also written over 30 articles on the subject, and his firm's website (www.duicenter.com) is considered the premier DUI research source on the internet. He was a founder and served on the Board of Regents of the National College for DUI Defense (Atlanta), and was elected dean of the College for 1995-1996. Over the past twenty years Mr. Taylor has proven a popular lecturer on DUI trial techniques at over 200 CLE seminars in 38 states. He has appeared on numerous television and radio programs, and has been featured in such publications as The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, The National Law Journal, Lawyer's Weekly USA and Martindale-Hubbell's Bar Register of Preeminent Attorneys. Mr. Taylor's six-attorney firm continues to limit its Southern California practice to the defense of drunk driving cases.

J. Gary Trichter - "Defense Witness Preparation & Ten Common Mistakes Made by Defense Attorneys" - Co-author of the TEXAS DRUNK DRIVING LAW, nationally recognized author of legal journals (33), former police officer, and past adjunct faculty member at South Texas College of Law and University of Houston College of Law, past chairperson of the Drunk Driving Committees for the NACDL, Board of Directors for the TCDLA. Mr. Trichter has also represented clients in 20 states and lectured at over 130 seminars in 15 states, the District of Columbia, British West Indies, Dominican Republic, Aruba, Costa Rica, Canada and in Mexico.
